Music by The Rick House Reserve

The members of The Rick House Reserve have been playing music together under different band names for going on 7 years. With this all-acoustic lineup and tight vocal harmonies, they have put together a compilation of songs, both covers and originals, that reflect the artistic expression found in bluegrass artists like the Punch Brothers and Crooked Still and other folk acts like Foy Vance, Ray Lamontagne and Bon Iver. They have opened for bands like Caravan of Thieves and can be heard regularly at St. Luke’s Episcopal “Come as You Are” Sunday evening service right in Darien.

Music by Matt Criscuolo & The Creeps

Matt Criscuolo and the creeps consist of bass, sax, drums, and guitar and will be performing Matt’s original tunes combined with some monk, Ellington, and other popular standards played in a progressive artistic way yet still palatable to the amateur jazz listener.

“Chasing Day is comprised of Michael Penfield and Frank Piazza, who live in Darien, CT and have recorded with Members of Jethro Tull, Chicago, Steely Dan, Lady Gaga, Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night and others. Their sound is Aspen meets Nashville with acoustic guitars and harmonies. Chasing Day has released one album of original music and plays a blend of original music and covers from Jason Aldean, Counting Crows, Zac Brown, Grateful Dead, Traffic, Blake Shelton, and many others! They are working on their second album now!”

Music by John Torres

John Torres is a native of Bridgeport, CT who, in addition to teaching Math at Middlesex Middle School, works as a private math tutor and guitar teacher in Darien. He grew up listening to artists like Cat Stevens, Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, Jim Croche, and The Beatles, and was later influenced by Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Elliott Smith, and Neutral Milk Hotel. He began songwriting while at Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and continued writing in the years after college. He has spent the last 3 years crafting a sound that is entirely his own. His music has been described as soulful, honest, playful, and tormented.

Whit Grumhaus is an independent singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Chapel Hill North Carolina. His folk-rock styling leans heavily on the music of U2, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan. Whit started his musical journey as a drummer in the school orchestra, but quickly moved to the guitar and has been frantically trying to achieve his requisite 10,000 hours behind the wheel ever since. He has played with Donovan and James Taylor. Whit’s first solo LP record of eleven original songs, “Been Here Before,” was recorded and produced by Chris Stamey of the dB’s and released in March of 2012. He also can be found performing around the Southeast with his band Coffee.

They have performed for two sitting Presidents of the United States, and been voted six years in a row, Band of The Year by The New York Metropolitan Country Music Association, This Premier Country Band always brings a refreshing entertaining show for all ages to enjoy.

Singer-songwriter Leslie Costa fell in love with guitar after her cousin, Chris, let her try his 1969 Fender Stratocaster. She formed her own band in 1990 called Leslie Costa and the Usual Suspects. Her contemporaries include artists like: Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Melissa Etherige, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crowes and Natalie Merchant.

Harry Bergen and Twisted Resistor is celebrating its 25th year as a band dedicated to the music of the ‘60’s such as Van Morrison, the Doors, the Stones and, of course, the Beatles. The band has won the IPC Battle of the Bands competition in 2008, 2009 and 2010 playing at the Grammercy Theatre and the Filmore East. The band promises to delight audiences of all ages and especially, children of the sixties!

Music by The Afterthoughts

The Afterthoughts grew from an official faculty band based out of Darien High School that had been formed for a charity event.  It became obvious to the band members that something bigger was happening, and a few minor roster changes and thirty songs later, the school band “Staff Infection” gave way to The Afterthoughts, an old-school cover band exploding onto the local music scene. Blasting out an eclectic mix of rock, rhythm & blues, and soul, The Afterthoughts can be found rockin’ out at parties and local watering holes throughout lower Fairfield County.

Music by The Spadtastics
Grateful Dead cover band

The Spadtastics band formed in 2006. The band consists of many members of past local Darien bands (Milc, Nick the Fin and Magic Garden). The name “Spadtastics” comes from the late Darien resident and former band leader, David Spadacinni who was the inspiration for this new band. The band covers the popular music of the Grateful Dead which songs were a fixture back in our DHS/College days. Due to family schedules and professions, the band only plays a concert once-a-year.
